The recent events in the Russo-Ukrainian war are sad to say the least. These are uncertain times and millions of Ukrainians have been forced to flee the country or seek refuge in bomb shelters.
Still, it’s in these moments that we appreciate kindness the most, especially since it seems so rare right now. We found a story that is a shining example of the inner goodness that we can evoke, even in the most difficult of times. In Donbass, Ukrainian soldiers came across Rambo, a puppy that went viral online garnering millions of views.
Rambo is the newest (and most adorable) member on the front lines of Donbass.
As verified by The Independent, several Ukrainian soldiers confirmed that they encountered a frightened and frozen stray puppy. They decided to take him in. After all, who can resist a pup in need? Freedom News recorded and posted a video of the event on February 16.
Rambo warmed everyone’s heart
The cub was small and black, with light coloring on the belly and legs. He was filmed proudly strutting around the base and getting to know his new home. One of the soldiers sweetly remarked that Rambo was his new protector. We would have to say that he is doing a fantastic job.
The soldiers call it “our security”
Rambo is a hardworking pup and he takes his job very seriously. One of the troop members tells Freedom News TV that being security is “his job” and that he always alerts his fellow soldiers if a stranger is around.
Another commented that Rambo was the “best dog”. He seems to fit right in with his comrade, stomping his feet in the mud, not asking for much more than the love of his new family. A little creature with a big impact, little Rambo brought joy to so many people during an incredibly difficult time.
How small was the puppy?
It could fit in the palm of your hand, according to a troop member who remembers the beginning of their friendship. He went on to say that there were a couple more puppies, but they preferred to stay in the kitchen area.
Who are Rambo’s brothers?
As we mentioned, Rambo is not the only canine accompanying the Ukrainian soldiers and bringing some lightness to these difficult times. However, his older brothers also protect their pack, and a soldier comments that it is useful many times: “something that a human does not hear, the dog does, he feels it.” No wonder we call them man’s best friend!
His siblings are Muha, Babai, and Malisha, whose name translates as “baby.” They also intervened in the conversation.
It’s hard to smile, but dogs help
Staying optimistic in these difficult times may seem impossible. The troops ended the Freedom News TV articles by saying, “I miss home, of course, I’ve been here too long.” Many of them have had to leave their families behind to stay and fight. These dogs are a therapeutic and peaceful presence in their lives, and are even helping to save lives with their unique abilities and improving hearing that we humans don’t have.

Here you will be able to meet Rambo and the other “trench pups” in Donbass. We hope that Rambo, his brothers and all the troops are safe and soon they can be with their families. Hopefully this war will end soon and will only exist in history textbooks.
People from all over the world leave loving comments.
Readers everywhere share this newfound optimism, and many commenters are full of love for the pups and their new pack. One user says, “Be well little Rambo,” while another says, “It’s that kind of emotionally charged situation, I’m sure any relief is welcome.” A puppy is an amazing thing. I sincerely hope no one gets hurt.” Some comments are short and sweet, while others find it hard to separate the context from the situation with the adorable pup.
We read one comment saying, “Why is this so sad to see?” while another reflects that as the world watches the explosions and destroyed buildings, “I’m going to have in the back of my head: ‘I hope Rambo be fine.”
