People have been creating food combinations for years, and more often than not, they are collectively iconic. But some people have some cravings for foods that are not yet accepted by the mainstream and are just weird. Many pregnant women (and just a few weirdos with unique food cravings) have an urge to combine sweet, salty, sour, and spicy flavors into concoctions that fascinate some and nauseate others. Here are the 10 weirdest food cravings of all time.
1. Ice creams and pickles
Pickles are a huge craving during pregnancy, and for anyone obsessed with pickles, they’d probably eat the same stuff as a mom-to-be. Pickles are tasty on burgers or fried on their own. That adds a salty crunch to a sandwich and many tasty creations, but ice cream is a texture pickles should stay away from. Just thinking about the two together in a bowl makes our stomachs turn, but apparently it tastes like heaven for pregnant women.

2. Peanut butter and mayonnaise on toast
Let’s try to relate to this one: maybe it’s a small amount of mayonnaise, and it just adds a tangy, buttery look when applied to freshly toasted bread. But if the mayonnaise is applied liberally and the bread is cold, we’re going to go ahead and call this an eyesore. PB should only be legal with jam, fruit or honey. At worst, you can add butter if you really don’t like sweet things.
3. Oreo and smoked salmon
Yes, we too are horrified to see this craving experienced by apparently pregnant women. A combination of chocolate, sweet cream and fish is something we never want to taste in this life. Sometimes there are things that should never mix, and smoked salmon paired with any sweet treat is definitely one of those things.
4. Hot Cheetos Dipped in Yogurt
We get it: warm Cheetos might make your taste buds fire up and reach for a glass of juice, but yogurt is another story. It might just taste like sauce, like sour cream, but plain plain yogurt without any seasoning doesn’t sound so amazing. Interestingly, pregnant women have even been known to dip these spicy Cheetos into strawberry-flavored yogurt! Now that’s a creative combination.
5. Pizza with sauerkraut
Pizza has had many strange toppings throughout history, but even stranger than pineapple and ham on pizza is sauerkraut, the pickled cabbage commonly reserved as a topping for hot dogs. You certainly don’t see this pickled ingredient on a classic slice every day, but pizza tastes amazing with just about anything, so we’re not averse to trying it.
6. Crushed ice
Simple as this is, it’s still a weird craving. Apparently if you have anemia (white is common for pregnant women) this is a standard craving. While we’d prefer at least some flavored shaved ice or a nice bowl of sherbet, this isn’t the grossest treat on the list, but it might be the most boring. Still, on a hot summer day, it doesn’t sound too bad.
7. Lemon and lime juice from concentrate
Apparently the craving for sour and acidic things is serious during pregnancy, but we also know a few non-pregnant people who might like this. If you have a high tolerance for sour flavors but aren’t a fan of sweets, maybe this will work for you? Pregnant women apparently love to cut a lemon or lime into quarters, or slice them up and bite into them like they would an orange. Honestly, we’d prefer a glass of lemonade instead, but whatever floats your boat.
8. Watermelon dipped in pickle juice
Watermelon is so wonderfully sweet yet smooth with a crisp finish. It’s the ultimate summer fruit and tastes just as refreshing when paired with unexpected combinations like basil and feta. But what kind of atrocity is this? Why ruin nature’s beautiful dessert by dipping it into the nasty saltiness of pickle juice? We can understand any other salty combo, but this is taking things to another level. Still, you can’t beat it until you try it!
9. Cream cheese and jam on toast
This combination is not so strange: it is a delicious combination for breakfast or dessert, especially since cream cheese is such a versatile food that it can be combined with basically anything. In fact, these two ingredients alone can make for a delicious sandwich when you’re on the go or short on food.
10. Honey Dipped Fries
Some people already do this, and it’s not the most joke-worthy on the list of weird food cravings. It has a funnel cake effect that doesn’t make us too upset. Mixing ketchup and honey, on the other hand, doesn’t sound so delicious. Some honey and fries with a burger actually sounds pretty delicious.
