Products and procedures that you simply don’t need are promoted all over social media as “life-changing” and “absolutely essential” for skin care. 1. Cleaning devices
These things are everywhere. It seems like almost every day there is a new brush to use on your face. And they are often touted as an important part of your skincare routine. But that’s not entirely true. Yes, properly cleaning your skin is important, but you don’t need a brush. These devices can do more harm than good. The ones with bristles are super unhygienic, they accumulate bacteria that can then get on your face when you use them. Not to mention that you shouldn’t use bristles on your face, they are too hard and can damage your skin. Silicone brushes that pulse are better, they don’t hurt you. But do you need them? Absolutely not. Just using your hands and a good cleaner is more than enough.
2. Nose strips
We’ve all tried it at least once. You “think” you have blackheads, you put that strip on and hope it will just get rid of them. News flash: it won’t. And you know what else is important? What you call blackheads are probably not blackheads, but simply sebaceous glands. Or just your pores. Then you don’t need nasal strips. They do not work.
3. Jade rollers
They are beautiful? Yes. Do they feel luxurious and add to the experience of performing a skincare routine? Yes. Are they effective in making your skin look better? The short answer is no. The most you can hope for from them is to maybe move the lymphatic fluid and help with the swelling a little in the morning. But again, you can use your hands for that massaging motion. You don’t need a jade roller and don’t let social media convince you otherwise.
4.Vitamin E
Raise your hand if you’ve seen vitamin E promoted as a solution for stretch marks and scars. The hype got to such a point that there was a point where everyone was buying vitamin E capsules and applying them all over their face and body in the hope of getting rid of acne, pigmentation, scars, stretch marks, etc. . Stop rubbing it all over your face. It just doesn’t do anything for you and many studies show that it doesn’t work.
5.Pore Vacuums
You’re probably thinking “they must work, I’ve seen the crap that comes out of my pores.” They suck the “garbage” out of the pores. Mainly oils and dead skin cells. But will that make your skin magically clear, glowing and healthy? No. In fact, it will work against you and cause your skin to produce more of that “junk.” And in the worst case, you can damage your skin by turning the settings too high and causing skin bruises.
6.Toners
Toners are complicated. Some are good, some are useless. And, strangely enough, they are those that contain active ingredients such as salicylic acid or green tea; They are good, they do something, but they are not tonic by definition. In the past, toners were essential because cleansers were too harsh and you needed them to restore your skin’s PH levels. Nowadays we have nice, very gentle cleansers, which make toners somewhat useless. They don’t hurt, but they don’t improve anything either.
