Jessica Leigh Clark-Bojin has the best work, especially for all of you with a sweet tooth. He’s a judge on The Food Network and has invented something called the “Pie Scraper.” What is a Pie Scraper, you ask? Well, it’s a cake that is built upwards using a variety of tricks to keep the structure stable while adding as much height as possible.
The idea arose from the theory that cakes are always the underdog compared to cakes. At large events and weddings, cakes take center stage due to their robustness and, above all, their height.
If you can make a three-tier cake, why not make a beautiful vertical cake that’s just as epic as its baked rival? From there, this pie master created a book called “Pie Modding,” which is the definitive guide to cake decorating.
Jessica’s Instagram showcases the best of her cake designs and has amassed 68,000 followers. Whether it’s an imaginative take on the roaring 20s or a recreation of Kermit and Miss Piggy, Jess has nailed it. You can even do it with people!
We love how this pie artist designs not only with her crust but also incorporates the design into her fillings, whether fruit or chocolate. The colors are always so rich, warm and vibrant.
Her cake ideas are as creative as their execution. On her website piesareawesome.com, Jess posts a variety of helpful content, from chocolate silk wedding cake scrapers and Disney princess cake fan art to Mother’s Day cake ideas that don’t stink.
It’s not all creativity when it comes to making the perfect cake: Jessica says it’s equal parts scientific and artistic. Many measurements are needed, along with baking skills. He said that making mistakes and trying new things created disasters, but also created many opportunities.
The site features tutorials, but we’re expecting more of a “Nailed It” episode situation than a Pinterest-perfect recreation on our part. Either way, practice makes perfect…
