Many of us have heard about the dangers of sugar and try to give it up or replace it with a healthier product. Along comes the next best option: fructose. It can be added to drinks and pretty much any other dish you want to sweeten. But is it really a healthier option? Maybe normal sugar still has some resistance. Let’s dig in!
The body absorbs sugar very quickly after it enters the bloodstream. It is generally broken down into glucose and fructose: one is good for the mind and the other nourishes the body. If you are under a lot of physical and mental stress, you should not exclude sugar from your daily diet.
The moderate consumption of sugar allows to combat depression and certain nervous disorders. However, if you overindulge in snacking to feel good, be prepared to face the consequences, namely excess weight. Eating all those cupcakes, muffins, and sweets will make it difficult for your body to cope with such an energy bomb, forcing it to distribute excess sugar throughout your cells. After that, glucose levels normalize and the cycle repeats.
Too much sugar can lead to many nasty health problems, the worst of which is probably diabetes. Sugar also has a negative effect on teeth and can lead to cavities. In general, consuming too much sugar is bad for you, and in some cases, it’s best to avoid putting more glucose into your body. And yet, many adults and children ate sweets uncontrollably to cheer themselves up.
So should you substitute fructose for regular sugar? Is it an easy “yes”? Fructose, also known as fruit sugar, is found in almost all fruits, berries, and honey. The caloric value of fructose is practically the same as that of refined sugar, but at the same time it is sweeter. However, it must be understood that fructose does not satisfy hunger, so we can consume more fructose sweets than necessary, which in turn will also lead to obesity.
