Renowned American tech giant Google has officially launched its much-awaited Nearby Share app for Windows PC, revolutionizing the way users share files across multiple devices including phones, tablets, and Chromebooks.
Google launches this new Windows app to seamlessly share data with nearby devices (how will it work?)
Enhanced features and seamless integration with Windows PC
After a successful beta period that began in March 2023, during which the app gained more than 1.7 million installs and facilitated the transfer of more than 50 million files between PC and Android devices, Google announced the official launch in a recent blog post.
With the official launch, Google has introduced several new improvements to the Nearby Share app. Users can now see estimated transfer times, getting information on the sharing speed of larger files, such as videos or entire folders. Additionally, the app now provides image previews in device notifications, ensuring users confirm the correct file before sharing.
Google also revealed ongoing collaborations with partners like HP to integrate the Nearby Share app on select Windows PCs, further simplifying the sharing process between Android devices and PCs.
Designed to enable fast and efficient file transfers without relying on an Internet connection, Nearby Share competes directly with Apple’s AirDrop and offers faster speeds than traditional Bluetooth transfers over a local wireless connection.
Transfers between devices revolutionized
As Google expands the availability of Nearby Share on Windows, the app becomes a convenient solution for seamless file sharing between Android phones and PCs. Android users can easily enjoy the feature as it comes pre-integrated in recent versions of the operating system.
To use Nearby Share for Windows, users simply need to enable their PC’s Wi-Fi and Bluetooth features. Once set up, file sharing is simple: simply drag a file into the app or right-click and choose the Nearby Share option to send it to a nearby device.
For a seamless experience, make sure both the sending and receiving devices are connected to the same Google account. Devices must be within a 16-foot range for successful transfers, and visibility settings are available to prevent unwanted file sharing. With Nearby Share for Windows, sharing files has never been more convenient and easier to use.
