Like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard, the world’s largest technology company by revenue, Apple is working on artificial intelligence (AI) offerings, according to a media report on Wednesday.
Apple will soon launch its own generative AI platform: Apple GPT will challenge ChatGPT’s dominance!
Apple tests its own generative AI chatbot, Apple GPT
News of this offer has caused the company’s shares to rise as much as 2 percent, to a record level.
As we already know, the manufacturer of the iPhone has created its own framework, known as “Ajax”, to create large language models (LLM).
The tech company is also testing a chatbot that some engineers are calling “Apple GPT,” according to the report.
So far Apple has not issued any statement in this regard.
It’s clear that Apple has refrained from making any big moves in AI until now.
To the point that the iPhone maker even avoided mentioning the buzzword at its developer conference in June.
This appears to be in stark contrast to other tech giants like Alphabet and Microsoft, which have taken bold steps to incorporate this innovative technology.
The news hit shares of Microsoft, Nvidia and Alphabet, which fell more than 1 percent after the report.
But subtly, Apple has pushed advanced AI into some of its products, like Apple Photos, on-device text messaging, and the recently released Vision Pro mixed-reality headset.
There will soon be an important announcement related to AI
Still, the company appears to be behind its peers in incorporating the new technology, according to analysts.
When it comes to Apple’s core AI product, like the Siri voice assistant, it has also stagnated over the years.
Media reported that several teams are involved in the latest AI effort.
It is led by John Giannandrea, the company’s head of machine learning and artificial intelligence, and Craig Federighi, Apple’s top software engineering executive.
Apple’s new virtual assistance summarizes text and answers questions based on data it has been trained on and is used internally for product prototyping, according to the report.
The tool essentially replicates Bard, ChatGPT, and Bing AI, and works as a web app, according to employees.
It seems that Apple still does not have a concrete plan for the tools it is developing.
But the report says the company intends to make a major AI-related announcement next year.
