Iconic New York film location from the show series
Do you feel passion when watching certain TV drama series or sitcoms? Have you already seen your favorite series at least three times? Then the next step is definitely to visit these places that were featured in your favorite series! Since so many TV series took place in New York, we’ve created the ultimate guide to New York City for fans of the show series!
6 of the best series based on New York City
Friends (1994-2004)
True fans would recognize it at first glance: the exterior façade of the Friends apartment, featured on the show. Although the show itself was filmed in Burbank, California, the facade is of an actual apartment in New York, at 90 Bedford Street.
Are you still looking for something else? In The FRIENDS™ Experience, you can fully immerse yourself in the world of the six friends. Whether it’s Monica and Rachel’s apartment or the legendary Central Perk Café, it’s just amazing!
The City (1998-2004)
If you want to feel like Carrie Bradshaw, you can take a detour to 5th Avenue or Macy’s and do a little (window) shopping. On top of that, there’s also the facade of Carrie Bradshaw’s apartment at 66 Perry Street in the West Village.
After a busy day following in Carrie’s footsteps, you deserve a drink! The Onieal represented ‘Scout’ in the series, directed by Aiden and Steve. If you’re craving a good Cosmopolitan, stop by Analogoe Bar.
Gossip Girl (2007-2012)
What iconic places can you think of from the series? Is it the Lotte New York Palace hotel where the van der Woodsen family temporarily resided, the steps of the great hall of Central Station where Serena was seen at the beginning of the series, or Chuck Bass’ Empire Hotel? However, New York is full of iconic places that transport you to the world of Gossip Girl’s New York elite.
And of course, don’t forget to enjoy frozen yogurt on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art like Blair Waldorf. If you want to add a little more culture to your Gossip Girl tour, visit the Museum of the City of New York, whose façade in the series represents the “Constance Billiards School for Girls.”
How I Met Your Mother (2005-2014)
The heart of the series, MacLaren’s, is actually modeled after a real-life Irish pub. McGee’s is located at 240 W 55th Street, near Central Park and Times Square.
Inventing Anna (2022)
Let’s continue in the high society of New York. In addition to all the luxury hotels that Anna Delvey stays in in the series, such as the 11 Howard Hotel (which is the ’12 George Hotel’ in the series), The Mercer, The Beekman or the W Hotel, a building in particular appears repeatedly. The 281 Park Avenue South, which Anna is interested in series for her Anna Delvey Foundation, actually exists. This is the Fotografiska Museum.
Seinfield (1989-1998)
The Original Soupman – Ever since the restaurant was featured in the infamous “soup Nazi episode”, its notoriety has skyrocketed, to the point that the restaurant has now opened multiple locations throughout the city. Don’t worry, the employees are actually significantly nicer than on the show.
Another place true Seinfeld fans shouldn’t miss is Sotheby’s, where J. Peterman does his quirky shopping. It is actually one of the oldest and most famous auction houses in the world! Here you can find everything from vintage jewelry to vintage cars to real estate. You’ll find it at 1334 York Avenue, a stone’s throw from the East River.
