Bridgerton is full of different colors representing symbols and status, and Penelope is no different. From yellow to pink to orange, there seems to be a story to Penelope’s outfits. She is the only character to wear yellow, and although she sometimes complains about it, yellow was one of the most fashionable colors in the Regency era. Much of Bridgerton’s storytelling is told through outrageous and outlandish outfits. Like her outfits, Penelope is complex.
And like the rest of her family (who come from new money), Penelope’s mother is a maximalist. Think tons of ruffles, ornate details, flowers, and wacky colors. She believes in the “more is more” philosophy and dresses her daughters in a bold color palette because she wants them to be seen and show off their beauty. At times, the entire series feels like a fashion show with each person trying to outshine the next.
We also love the portrayal of a plus-size queen among the show’s size zeros, and Nicola Coughland as Bridgerton looks just as gorgeous as her less curvaceous counterparts.
1. In this rare look, we see Penelope without her usual adornments and accessories. Still, the floral accessories on her wig are flawless as always. This time, the dress is a mix of peach and yellow tones that culminates in a golden sunset look that goes perfectly with her red curls.
2. This dress also has a sunset feel, with sherbet undertones that remind us of the other candy-colored ensembles Penelope Featherington wears. Puffed sleeves adorn a printed dress that has tiers or closed flower buds. We’re not sure which one it is, but we’re a little obsessed.
3. This pretty pink look is more pastel than Penelope is used to wearing. We love the 3D floral additions on its sleeves, as well as the floral centerpiece on the bust, with black lace trim. But what really brings this outfit together are those sheer pink polka dot gloves.
4. Ok, this pink is more like normal Penelope speed. It looks beautiful on her fair skin and this time she chooses a more opaque magenta glove with ruffled details. The floral details on this set are full of rich but not too flashy colors, and that dazzling necklace adds a bright, sparkly look to this memorable look.
5. Here Miss Featherington is rocking a classic yellow look while out and about with her best friend. As usual, it’s all flowers, with a beautiful embroidered pattern and a matching necklace. Even her hair looks like a bouquet here, with a vibrant yellow feather and dreamy pink flowers.
6. The ruching on this dark yellow dress paired with that necklace really shows off Coughlan’s stunning form. And instead of flowers, this time we find a look adorned with butterflies. Even the embroidery on the bodice looks like a huge (but subtle) butterfly thanks to some clever design.
7. OMG: This is one of the only times we see Penelope without obviously bright color and we’re in love with him. Those long cream gloves and gold embroidery make her look like an absolute queen. And that bird of paradise look actually works as that exaggerated detail, since the rest of the look is toned down.
8. Those pink gloves appear again, this time in a slightly different yellow dress. That silk shawl really adds depth, as does the elegant plume coming out of her curls. The tones of the embroidery are bright colors that Penelope’s mother always chooses for her.
9. It feels like a breath of fresh air to see a more subtle look without all the frills and flashiness. In this case, a sparkling necklace is the only slightly eye-catching detail on this dress, which features a nice faded yellow color with fine floral details.
10. This star’s dresses are always perfect, but what always impresses us are her details and how well she combines with her accessories. This botanical necklace is paired with the fine flower vine around Penelope’s chest and those delicate drop earrings.
11. This is pretty much the only time we’ve seen Penelope dressed in green! With romantic Japanese sleeves, a pretty green necklace and a headdress made of beads, this color gives a totally different look to the Pen, usually pink or yellow.
12. This look is notable because it combines two of the colors Penelope is frequently seen in: yellow and pink. In this case, the bodice itself features a sophisticated pleat, but the drama is in those ruched, ruffled sleeves, with tiny pink flowers dotting the seams (and found in her hair).
