On November 28, 2021, the world was shocked and devastated to discover that Virgil Abloh had passed away from cancer at the young age of 41. She had been secretly battling cancer, and her loss is one that has rocked Hollywood, the fashion industry. , and more. Abloh and his designs were loved and highly coveted around the world. Starting out as a member of Kanye’s creative team before founding Off-White™, he became the artistic director of menswear at Louis Vuitton and was a multidisciplinary role model in so many creative endeavors.
He is one of the first black people to head a luxury brand and will always be remembered for all the boundaries he broke. With an impressive work ethic and outfits we’ll never forget, we’re here to celebrate Virgil Abloh’s most impressive and iconic items of all time.
1. HBA x Been Trill T-shirt
Hood by Air was once THE brand, and it’s all thanks to Abloh’s vision. He used a font from the Rocky Horror Picture show, and the shirt was the result of a major collaboration between several designers. It was a great moment where streetwear meets luxury, and this tee quickly sold out across the globe.
2. Off-White™ Industrial Belt
This extra-long utility black and yellow belt from the F16 collection was a must-have when it came out. It was used in all sorts of creative interpretations beyond holding up pants, from as a necklace to as a style over a jacket.
3. Louis Vuitton Holographic Canvas Bag
The duffel bag is an icon of street fashion and this item stands out from the crowd thanks to its unique holographic finish. Unlike Vuitton’s more staid and conventional products, this was a fun title and a much-needed whimsical twist. This canvas bag is from Abloh’s first show with Vuitton.
4. Arc’teryx x Off-White™ Dress
Part of the fashion movement known as “gorp core,” inspired by the outdoors and functional hiking clothing, it had a major moment, and Virgil Abloh helped promote it. In addition to her Camo Arc’teryx collaboration with Drake, she was inspired to create his Off-White™ FW21 womenswear collection, which blended gore-tex design with sculptural ballgowns.
5. Louis Vuitton SS19 Cropped Leather Vest/Harness
This vest really pushes the envelope in terms of the traditional definition of what a vest does. This iconic piece does what Virgil does best: it changes common beliefs about fundamental fashion. After all, what is a vest and what does it mean to be “complete”? This is sort of a partial vest meets harness for a low-maintenance statement piece we’re obsessed with.
6. Virgil Abloh x IKEA “KEEP OFF” Rug
Abloh even dabbled in home decor with his unusual collaboration with IKEA, including this fabulous rug covered in the words “KEEP OFF/.” The design was a tongue-in-cheek take on an overbearing father who wants to protect his furniture. In it, he said, “I wanted a tongue-in-cheek take on the traditional attitude to furnishing where the living room is just a showroom, not a place to sit.”
7. Pyrex Vision Flannel Shirt
Before looking for Off-White, there was Pyrex Vision. This was the first hashtag that made Abloh go viral, as Kanye West and several members of the A$AP Mob used his likeness. The actual shirt is a Ralph Lauren Rugby flannel with Abloh’s branding printed on the back. Of course, it was sold out immediately.
8. Off-White™ Mona Lisa Hoodie
Virgil was notably obsessed with the French abstract artist Marcel Duchamp, a famous creator of conceptual art and another visionary not unlike Abloh. One of his works is a remix of the Mona Lisa, which features the subject with the addition of a hilarious mustache. Abloh loved the work so much that he printed it on his Off-White™ hoodies, forever captured as the ultimate hybrid between art and fashion.
9. Nike x Off-White™ “The Ten” Jordan
All of the Abloh sneaker collaborations have experienced great success, and these shoes are one of the most desired Abloh shoes out there. His collaboration with Nike is one of his most memorable, featuring deconstructed design elements, a red zip-closure tag, and quotes. The color options were an ode to Abloh’s hometown, and the pair sold out faster.
10. Mercedes Benz G-Class Collaboration
While this isn’t an outfit, it is a car, which many people consider to be an essential look for expressing their sense of style. This futuristic, blocky G-Class was completely conjured up by Abloh. In it, he told Highsnobiety that luxury doesn’t have to be defined by the ways of the past, and that this car proves that “design can show a new personality.” The unique design was meant to appeal to city kids who don’t normally pay attention to cars.
