Discover the filming locations of Game of Thrones
Are you an avid Game of Thrones fan? Ever wanted to see the city walls of Dubrovnik or Kingsroad in real life? Combine your vacation with a visit to the set of your favorite scenes from Game of Thrones.
Belfast, North Island
The main setting for Game of Thrones is Titanic Studios in Belfast. But various locations in Northern Ireland were also used for filming. There’s the home of the Castle Black set at Magheramorne Quarry, the Tourney of the Hand at Shane’s Castle and, of course, the King’s Road.
Dubrovnik, Croatia
Dubrovnik’s beautiful UNESCO City Walls can be seen in many episodes of Game of Thrones, but sites have been used throughout the city as well! Spot Fort Lovrijenac, used especially in the opening of season 2, and the island of Lokrum, which is also a popular tourist destination for the locals.
malta
Filming mainly focused on the city of Mdina, but the most famous setting is the Azure Window on the Maltese island of Gozo. The coastal feature collapsed in a storm in early 2017, but it’s still a beautiful area and where Khal Drogo and Daenerys Targaryen got married.
Reykjavik, Iceland
Iceland has been used for panoramic shots and nature scenes since season 2, and is known for its waterfalls, glaciers, and national parks. Seasons 3 and 4 in particular were filmed in Iceland and included Þingvellir National Park, Gullfoss waterfall, and Geysir hot springs. The natural beauty and stunning landscape shot were perfectly captured in GoT, which shows the highlights of Iceland. Does this cave look familiar to you?
Sevilla Spain
Filming for Spain began in Season 5 and returned in Season 6, as the team wanted to have a new setting for the eastern and southern parts of the GoT world. Las Reales Atarazanas and the Real Alcázar de Sevilla are two of the locations used in Seville, but other locations such as the ruins of Itálica were also used.
