From an early age, girls often get a very specific form of femininity stuffed down their throats, like playing with dolls or wearing pink. But not all women are born natural feminine girls. A lot of us are tomboys and relate more to boys than this traditional idea of a girl. If you are a woman who has ever felt a little out of place, you should know that you are not alone. Here are some signs that you are definitely not a girly girl.
1. Always sweatpants
For girly girls, this could be an interior staple that they can swap out for tights, skirts, or dresses. But as a non-girly girl, you know that sweatshirts are the most comfortable and you are willing to wear them anywhere and everywhere.
2. Your hair routine is minimal
Yours is that uncomplicated lifestyle. You don’t like fancy hairstyles, lots of styling products, or curling and straightening your hair. Instead, she likes to keep a routine to a minimum, and the same goes for hair accessories like bows or barrettes.
3. You don’t mind hanging out with boys.
Some girls may roll their eyes at guys who just want to play video games or sweat it out and play sports, but the tomboy will jump on this opportunity online, the girly girl who would rather get a manicure or pedicure or watch Real Housewives with the girls. In fact, you are a proud gamer!
4. You are not a big fan of makeup
Skincare is one thing, but makeup? Even the eyeliner – no matter how many Youtube tutorials you watch, you just can’t figure it out and you really don’t want to. Formal events are sometimes stressful for this reason.
5. No to high heels
Slippers all day! Maybe a platform if you are forced to dress up. Combat boots, running shoes, and basically anything that doesn’t involve you wobbling is your preferred form of footwear.
6. It takes you little time to prepare
Other girly girls gasp at how little it takes you to get ready, but your routine is so low-maintenance that it sometimes even makes them jealous.
7. Being a cheerleader is confusing to you.
As much as someone tells you it’s a sport, which it definitely is, you can’t see it as your kind of sport, with skimpy clothes and super feminine and sexy dance moves.
8. You’re definitely not the girl who only orders a salad.
You’re down to eat that burger or that plate of nachos and you’ll probably end up with a smudge or two and food around your mouth. Eating is a passionate activity for you and you are not worried about eating too much or looking like a lady in these scenarios. Maybe you can even gobble down a whole, medium or large pizza, and it’s something you’re proud of.
9. You like adventure and spontaneity.
A late-night nude bath where your hair could be ruined? Sure why not? Impromptu hike where you’ll end up sweating and covered in dirt? Go ahead!
10. Jeans and T-shirt are your uniform
It’s not often that you see these types of girls trying to style the ultimate outfit like Gossip Girl’s Blair Waldorf. Instead, you’re looking for comfortable basics like leggings or jeans, paired with a loose, comfortable T-shirt—no push-up bras here!
11. You are not a diva
From going camping to dealing with scrapes and cuts, you’re not squeamish and you’re not a princess about it. You are not afraid of getting dirty and you are not one to complain about the little things.
12. You don’t have a large group of friends.
You’re probably mostly boy friends, or just have a couple of close female friends who really pick up on your tomboyish essence and don’t try to make you into something you’re not.
13. You are not the best at dealing with crying or emotions.
You’re not one to cry at the end of a sentimental movie like The Notebook. Instead, you freak out when you have to face your emotions and end up crying, and other people in your life know it’s very important when you do.
14. You may not have the “wedding of your dreams”
That thing where little girls swoon at magazines and cut out photos of their dream wedding venue, the dress, and even details like what kind of flowers are there? Yeah, that’s not you. Instead, you are probably stressed about the fact that you will have to dress up!
15. You don’t love the color pink
Greens, blacks, and blues might be your favorites, but when it comes to pink things or anything frilly, that’s not really your personal sense of style. People will probably tell you that you need “more color” in your wardrobe, but they’ll never understand that pink simply isn’t your ideal color combination.
