These fashion trends are not so much trends as they are fads. These looks might get you some Instagram likes and grab headlines for a short period of time, but after their appeal wanes, you’ll be left with a stale look that won’t last for several seasons. Then again, trends are cyclical, so maybe we’ll just put these looks on the back burner.
1. Anything from fast fashion brands.
The queen of fads is fast fashion. People waste their money on low-quality items from brands with an arsenal of IG marketing. It might be tempting to pick up that cute two-piece look from Fashionova for just $30, but the environmental consequences (along with the low wages and sweatshop environments in which the clothes are produced) make fast fashion a no-go for us.
2. Muppet furry coats
Faux fur jackets will never go out of style, but those super colorful Muppet jackets look a little comical for next season. Instead, you may recall vintage-inspired shearling styles integrated with denim textures or fur details on the collars instead of long pile.
3. 90s chokers
Many styles from the 1990s have made a comeback. And although chokers made a nice comeback, it’s time for them to return to your jewelry box for now. Instead, try a classic thin chain or chunky statement earrings with silver or gold accents.
4. Microbags
We’re not really sure why this trend started. Basically, it looks like you’re carrying a doll’s purse. They won’t fit tampons, medication, keys, makeup, or even some tissues, so honestly, what’s the point of this accessory? Just wear a stylish belt and pair it with a bag that can actually hold stuff!
5. Neon tones
Maybe cut back on the glow-in-the-dark and traffic cone-colored looks for something a little more demure. Neon sometimes looks bold, but you can really only use it in a few specific circumstances. For work or errands, sometimes it seems like too much. Instead, stick with pastels and don’t waste money on bright shades that are less versatile. Florals are also great if you want to make some noise.
6. Utility Monkey Stuff
Ok, so many girls manage to look great with this look. But these jumpsuits are usually too expensive and made of too much fabric. They are uncomfortable and heavy to wear; when they’re made of denim, the stiffness can be unbearable. Also, if you have to use a public restroom, it’s kind of gross and not practical. Don’t waste all your money on one!
